Welcome to the Mastery School of Hawken
Built entirely around the principle of mastery, the Mastery School is designed to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and habits needed to succeed in a rapidly changing world by teaching through the lens of “Why?” and organizing learning around real-world problem-solving. Through innovative interdisciplinary Macros, immersive three-week Intensives, and personalized learning experiences, students investigate complex questions on diverse teams.
Instead of traditional letter grades and time-based credits, students are assessed for mastery using Mastery Credits. Working alongside local nonprofits, hospitals, and civic organizations, students apply their learning to relevant challenges while developing critical thinking, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. Students benefit from internship opportunities and the professional resources of a major city that extend learning beyond the classroom.

Hawken's five historic mansions serve as the school's primary campus, creating a distinctive setting where students engage deeply with both their studies and the surrounding community. Hawken's University Circle campus will also serve as home to the Medical Sciences Semester Program, a distinctive residential experience that immerses students in one of the nation's premier healthcare and research corridors.
