College Counseling

The Mastery School’s College Counseling Office views the college search and application process as an important aspect of each student’s educational experience at Hawken. Our approach is designed to ensure an appropriate academic, social, and financial match for each student. While outcomes are important, priorities are in student advocacy and counseling, not serving as a college placement office to guarantee admission to a specific college or university. We’re all about helping families find the fit. The college search aligns with many aspects of the Mastery philosophy: Students will take ownership of the process and discover strengths and interests while overcoming challenges as they plot their future path with clear guidance and tailored feedback. 

 

At the Mastery School, we strive to individualize the experience for each student; the college search process is no different. The College Counseling Office develops strong rapport with students, teachers, and families, building a community of trust and support. Through observations of the crediting process, classes, Macro Challenge presentations, and more, the Office aims to understand each student's academic path and how they have taken advantage of the school’s unique curriculum. As a small community, we have the opportunity to acknowledge, develop, and celebrate every student’s talents and goals. Our highest goal is to maximize the individual growth of every student as both a scholar and a citizen, ready to embrace all of the experiences and opportunities college has to offer.
