Thursday Note 1.14.21

Happy Thursday! This note contains important information and upcoming events. Thanks for reading each week!

Thursday Note from
The Mastery School of Hawken

January 14, 2021

We’ve missed our students, and can’t wait to get back to in person learning next week. We have good news on that front!

In the interest of recovering some in-person time, next week we will be on campus Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

If this schedule shift poses a problem for your family, we will continue to offer the option of staying remote. All you have to do is contact your Intensive teacher directly.

See you on Tuesday!

Also, Sophomore College & Scheduling Night for the Class of 2023 College Night scheduled for February 9th has been postponed until the start of the 2021-22 scheduling process. We will let you know the new date for the program as soon as possible.

Monday, February 15: No School — Presidents’ Day
Wednesday, March 3: Sophomores take the PSAT
Saturday, March 13 – Sunday, March 28: Spring break

Covid Reminders

As always, we hope everyone stays safe and healthy, and we need to re-familiarize ourselves with and recommit to the protocols:
  • We must observe hand-washing, distancing, and masking protocols.
  • All students must complete Teambuildr each day that they come to campus.
  • If a student traveled, it’s critical to observe the Ohio guidelines for quarantining  and safe re-entry.

Activities Shuttle Sign Up

We are so excited to return in person, which means we’ll be ramping up our attention to detail. Will your child take the Activities Shuttle from University to Gates Mills after school? We need to know! Please complete this survey as soon as possible.

Congrats to Ethan!

We are incredibly proud that Ethan K., Class of ’24, was named the first-place winner of the Tri-C Stand for Racial Justice essay contest for the 9th/10th-grade students! The judges chose Ethan’s essay out of 192 total submissions. Look for his essay and photo tomorrow on and in the print edition of The Plain Dealer.
In some self-congratulatory news, the Mastery School website won an award. Each year, Inspired School Marketers hosts the Brilliance Awards to highlight exemplary work in school communication and marketing. Our website won a Bronze Award.

One judge wrote, “I was captivated by this website right away — the red thread grabbed me and led me through the school’s unique philosophy and persuasive point of view. More schools should take such a bold stance!”

How about that?

Highlight of the Week

Each week, we find one glittering jewel to share among the pile of glittering jewels. This week’s highlight: This weekend, we hosted “Cultivating #blackboyjoy,” a virtual event that explored our approach to helping black male students develop a positive sense of identity, academic confidence, and leadership through caring relationships. Huge thanks to @SanctuaryCLE & Twelve Literary Arts!
